Research profile:

The research interest is focused on:

  • human mesenchymal stem cells derived from bone marrow and cell microvesicles in term of their isolation, identification, expansion, genetic modifications and therapeutic transplantation in animal models of brain ischemia
  • evaluation of effectiveness of human, dog and mice glial progenitor transplantation in the treatment of ALS disease in the experimental models (rag2/shi; rag2/SOD1mice)
  • interpretation of the role the histone acetylation/deacetylation play in stimulating the endogenous neurogenesis in rat model of perinatal asphyxia
  • description of temporary ischemia-hypoxia influence on the oligodendrocyte progenitor maturation and process of CNS myelination

      Models for in vitro and in vivo studies include: human bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cell (hBM-MSCs) cultures and co-cultures with microvesicles released from MSCs, primary cultures of mouse and rat glial progenitors, functionality assessment of cell adhesion using microfluidic devices, experimental models of cytotoxic brain injury, perinatal asphyxia and  CNS demyelination

Established methods and techniques comprise: intraparenchymal and systemic cell transplantation in animal models of neurological diseases, microvesicles isolation from hBM-MSCs), primary cultures of mesenchymal stem cells/progenitors, cell co-culture systems, cell tracing with different dyes (SPIO, GFP, PKH26, CMFDA, F), immunocytochemistry, immunohistochemistry, light-, fluorescent- and confocal microscopy analysis, MR cellular imaging, microfluidic adhesion assays, in situ zymography, biochemical and molecular analyses (e.g. electrophoresis, chromatography, Western Blotting, Sandwich ELISA tests, cell transfection and GFP protein fusion, RT PCR, qRT PCR, methylation and acethylation of chromatine etc).
