The
current research program of the Department of Cellular Signalling:

The Department conducts advanced research aimed at elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases. Our work focuses particularly on the interplay between the accumulation of misfolded proteins in the brain, such as α-synuclein (α-syn) and amyloid β (Aβ), and key pathological processes including excessive glial activation, oxidative stress, and mitochondrial dysfunction.
We employ a broad range of experimental models, spanning cell cultures (e.g., primary neuronal cultures, SH-SY5Y, PC12, BV2) and in vivo systems
— including mouse models of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, based on intracerebral administration of Aβ or α-syn oligomers, as well as a rat model of immune system activation.
Our projects are carried out in close collaboration with leading research institutions in Poland and abroad. We make extensive use of state-of-the-art methodologies and complementary experimental approaches, encompassing single-cell analyses, organotypic cultures, and animal models of neurodegenerative disorders.

The area of the research in which the candidate would participate:

• investigation of the molecular mechanisms of immune system activation in experimental models of Parkinson’s disease;

• study of the effects of pharmacological modulation of the immune system on neurodegeneration and behavioral abnormalities in animal models of neurodegenerative disorders.

Description of job position activities:

• conducting scientific research using in vitro and in vivo models in line with the Department’s current research focus;

• performing biochemical and molecular analyses (Western blot, qPCR), carrying out behavioral tests using laboratory animals, and implementing new research technologies;

• actively participating in national and international scientific conferences;

• preparing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed international journals;

• securing external funding for research projects, including preparing individual and consortium grant applications;

• actively contributing to the scientific and educational activities of the Department (including supervision of trainees and students);

• engaging in activities aimed at promoting and disseminating scientific knowledge.

Requirements for the position of assistant:

• having a master’s degree (or equivalent) in the field of medical, biological, or related sciences;

• ability to design, organize, and conduct scientific research, as well as formulate research hypotheses consistent with the Department’s research focus;

• solid knowledge of biochemical, molecular biology (DNA/RNA isolation, qPCR, Western blot), and cell biology techniques;

• hands-on experience in maintaining and working with cell cultures;

• experience in immunohistochemical techniques and fluorescence microscopy imaging;

• documented participation in scientific conferences and research internships;

• strong independence and good organizational skills;

• creativity, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team;

• excellent command of spoken and written English;

• indication Mossakowski Medical Research Institute Polish Academy of Sciences (MMRI PAS) as a first place of employment.

Additional requirements (desirable):

• experience in working with laboratory animals, including skills such as intracerebral injections;

• ability to analyze data and familiarity with statistical methods commonly used in scientific research, as well as proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., GraphPad Prism);

• documented involvement in research projects for which the candidate has independently secured competitive funding.

We offer:

• employment contract (full-time);

• opportunity for scientific development and independence in project management for which funding was obtained independently by the candidate;

• participation in the implementation of other projects;

• attendance in conferences and internships;

• additional financial support from the social fund;

• opportunity to join a group insurance program, medical service package, and to obtain a Multisport card on preferential terms;

• friendly work environment.
