The current research program of the Department of Neuropeptides:
● search for new active substances for the treatment of acute, chronic, and neuropathic pain;
● search for new active substances with anticancer activity;
● search for new active substances inhibiting MRGPRX2 receptor activation;
● development of peptide synthesis techniques.
The area of the research in which the candidate would participate:
● design and synthesis of modified peptides with potential activity at GPCRs, particularly opioid receptors;
● synthesis of novel building blocks (amino acid derivatives) for use in solid-phase peptide synthesis.
Description of job position activities:
● design and synthesis of peptides, peptidomimetics, and small molecules with potential biological activity;
● purification of synthesized compounds using chromatographic methods, including preparative HPLC;
● performance and interpretation of analytical characterization of newly synthesized compounds;
● participation in the biological evaluation of synthesized compounds;
● implementing new research technologies and methods to improve the quality of scientific research;
● active acquisition of research funding by preparation of grant applications in accordance with competition rules;
● active participation in the implementation of research projects, following the requirements of the financing institution;
● preparing reports on conducted research;
● analyzing, developing, and presenting the obtained data;
● preparation of manuscripts and their publication;
● active participation in seminars, courses, and trainings;
● active participation in the scientific activities of the Department, the Institute, and the scientific community.
Requirements:
● Master's degree (or equivalent) in medical sciences, biological sciences, chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related field;
● at least three years of laboratory experience in organic chemistry and/or medicinal chemistry, including general organic synthesis, basic instrumental analysis, and characterization of organic compounds;
● experience in compound purification using conventional column chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography;
● documented scientific activity (e.g., in the form of published materials, presentations, reports, abstracts, certificates, or official statements);
● knowledge of statistical methods used in science;
● interest and predisposition to scientific work, availability and teamwork skills;
● good organizational skills and openness to new challenges;
● fluency in English, both spoken and written;
● indication of Mossakowski Medical Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences as the first place
of employment.
Additional requirements (desirable):
● authorship/co-authorship of scientific publications in organic and/or medicinal chemistry;
● experience in applying for grant projects;
● ability to analyze and present acquired results;
● ability to work in a team, design, organize, and conduct scientific research;
● knowledge of asymmetric synthesis;
● knowledge of chiral chromatography;
● experience in solid-phase peptide synthesis using a microwave peptide synthesizer;
● knowledge of the design and investigation, including biological evaluation, of active compounds targeting GPCR-family receptors.
