The Director of Mossakowski Medical Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences announces the competition for the position of the assistant professor or professor of the institute or professor* (f/m/x) and Head of the Clinical and Research Department of Applied Physiology to operationalize statutory tasks, conduct research projects and implement one’s vision of scientific development of the Department.
Current research program of the Clinical and Research Department of Applied Physiology:
The Clinical and Research Department of Applied Physiology conducts research aimed at assessing the body's metabolic and immune response to physiological stimuli and changes in ambient temperature. Research is also conducted on ultrastructural changes in heart biopsies in the course of cardiomyopathy and viral heart infections, as well as on the physiology and pathophysiology of the heart and circulatory system.
Description of activities:
- managing the team and supervising the tasks performed by team members
- forming the composition of the research team
- proposing and implementing your own research topics within the scope of the team's interests, using modern methodology
- introducing new research techniques to raise the standard of scientific research
- publishing the results of scientific research
- obtaining external funding for research projects
- active participation in the scientific activities of the MMRI PAS and scientific community
The necessary qualification requirements for the Head of the Department position:
- minimum of a Ph.D. degree in biological, medical or related sciences
- confirmed effectiveness in obtaining external funding for scientific research, proven track record in securing research funding
- previous independent management of a research project financed from non-institutional funds or management of a research team
- ability to propose one's own research topics using modern methodology
- substantive experience in the field of etiopathology of human diseases and animal models of these diseases, practical skills and experience in the application of histological and immunohistochemical techniques, working with laboratory animals, performing experiments and surgical operations on animals, laboratory tests involving the analysis of human and animal material, imaging techniques, molecular biology and in vitro testing
- the multidisciplinary nature of the research conducted and research interests
- the ability to flexibly modify the research profile in response to social demand
- scientific achievements documented by international scientific publications – including as first author and/or corresponding author
- experience in planning department’s publication strategy
- documented active participation in domestic and international conferences and symposia
- experience in popularising science
- proficiency in English
Additional requirements (desirable):
- knowledge of electron microscopy techniques and the ability to assess the ultrastructure of tissues and organs
- ability to work in a team
- experience in working in an environment focused on the practical implementation of scientific research results
- experience in providing substantive support to students and junior academic staff
- scientific cooperation with other centres conducting scientific research
Requirements for the position of the assistant professor:
- at least a Ph.D. degree in biological, medical or related sciences
- at least 2 original articles in scientific journals indexed in JCR, including at least one of which the candidate is the first author, the first equal author or a corresponding author, published after obtaining the Ph.D. degree, but not containing the results of the Ph.D. thesis
Requirements for the position of professor of the institute or professor:
- habilitated doctor’s degree or title of professor, in the case of a person permanently residing abroad - at least a doctoral degree, in biological, medical or related sciences
- at least 1 original article published after habilitation in scientific journals indexed in JCR, including at least one of which the candidate is the first author, the first equal author or a corresponding author
- documented experience in obtaining funds
- previous management of a research team or research project funded by external sources
- only a person with the academic title of professor is employed in the position of professor based on the appointment made by the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences

- the applicant’s CV including information about education, an occupational and scientific career as well as research, teaching, and organizational achievements
- list of publications divided: articles published before the doctorate, articles published after obtaining PhD degree containing results from PhD thesis, other articles published after the doctorate, and articles published after the habilitation (if applicable), together with bibliometric analysis, as well as other documents proving the applicant’s scientific achievements required under the Employment Rules and Regulations for the positions of the researcher, appropriate for the position to which the competition relates
- a statement that Mossakowski Medical Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences shall be the applicant’s primary place of employment and the managerial function shall be performed full-time
