The current research program of the Laboratory of Protein Engineering:
- development of novel antimicrobials based on bacteriolytic enzymes
- testing of applicability of enzybiotics as microbiota modulators in skin conditions like atopic dermatitis, impetigo, psoriasis etc.
- novel antimicrobial wound dressings tests to treat chronic wounds, e.g., diabetic foot, ulcers
- biofilm formation studies and searching for novel eradication methods
- structural studies of mechanisms of bacterial autolysin activation as a target of antimicrobial treatment
The area of the research in which the candidate would participate:
- study of toxicity of novel antimicrobials using in vitro and in vivo models
- development of in vivo models of tested applications of antimicrobials
- performance of biochemical and microscopic experiments
Description of job position activities:
- design in vivo experiments of target disorders in which antimicrobials are going to be tested
- planning in vivo experiments according to all formal requirements
- assisting and managing in vivo studies, including sample management, data collection, reporting etc.
- tissue culture regular studies to test cytotoxicity of novel antimicrobials
- implementing new protocols and methods to improve the quality of scientific research in the Laboratory
- assisting in preparation of grant applications according to the call requirements
- preparing reports on conducted research
- analysing, developing, and presenting the obtained data at regular internal meetings
- preparation of manuscripts and active assistance in their submission
- preparation of conference presentations, and representing the Institute at scientific conferences
- active participation in seminars, courses, and trainings
Requirements:
- at least a Ph.D. degree in medical, biological or related sciences
- at least 2 original articles in scientific journals indexed in JCR, including at least one of which the candidate is the first author, the first equal author or a corresponding author, published after obtaining the Ph.D. degree, but not containing the results of the Ph.D. thesis
- experience in the research work in biochemistry, biotechnology, cell biology and in vivo models documented by publications in peer-reviewed journals, conference abstracts
- experience (minimum 5 years) in laboratory work, preferably in biochemistry, cell science, biotechnology, molecular biology
- creativity, openness to new challenges, and teamwork skills
- indicating the Mossakowski Medical Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences as the first-place employer
- fluency in English, both spoken and written
- documented active participation in national and international conferences and symposia
Additional requirements (desirable):
- experience in toxicity test in vitro, e.g., MTT test
- experience in in vivo toxicity test, e.g., using Galleria mellonella model or Danio rerio model
- practical knowledge of in vivo model design: preparing application to local ethic committee, choosing best model, planning experiment
- valid permission for work with laboratory animals is necessary
- ability to analyze and present acquired results
- knowledge of statistical methods used in scientific research
- supervision of young scientists
